Pope John Paul II High School (formerly Kennedy-Kenrick)  Scholarships
For the 2008/2009 school year, the Foundation has selected Our Lady of Victory's Jarel Edsell to represent our organization and receive a 50%, 4 year scholarship to Kennedy-Kenrick and its successor high school.  We look forward to Jarel's active participation in various MPF activities including volunteering at the the Missionaries of Charity, Mental Health / Mental Retardation Center, and other MPF events.

Jarel has shown promise in 8th grade as his scholastic achievements continue to improve.   He is on the OLV baseball team and is the Titans' version of the Phillies' Ryan Howard with the power hitting he exudes.

Congratulations, Jarel!

2007-08 MPF Scholars Announced in May

At this past May's "Troney Trot",  The Foundation is proud to announce that Ashley Smith from Collegeville and a former student at St. Theresa of Avila School has been selected as the next 4 year scholarship winners at Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School.

Ashley Smith is a 2007 graduate of St. Theresa of Avila School.  While attending STA, she actively participated in many social and service activities.  Ashley was a member of the varsity volleyball team where she was awarded the 2007 MIP award and a Region 21 all-star representing the STA Region 21 Championship softball team.  Ashley also participated for five years in the STA Broadway Revue musical.  Throughout her nine years at St. Theresa, she participated in the student government, mission promotor program, yearbook staff, and served the parish for four years as an altar server.  Outside of school, Ashley has a great interest in music, snow skiing, and the beach.  She loves spending time with family and friends and is excited about joining her brother, Ryan, at Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School.

With their selection, the MPF now has provided 4 year scholarship funding to 17 worthy students.  We are honored to be able to play a key role in the academic and social development of these fine students.

These scholarships represent a significant financial commitment and we really need your help in order to sustain this level of activity for the long term as well as supporting other initiatives, some of which are highlighted below.

MPF Scholarship Program Update

Effective the 2009/2010 school year, the Foundation will be discontinuing its scholarship program with Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School  However, all current scholars will continue to receive their scholarships through their graduation at KKCHS or the new high school.   This decision was made after a couple years of careful consideration by the Board.   We believe, that given a finite amount of resources, there are so many needs that we can help fulfill in the Norristown area that will benefit a greater number of children and families.  Great examples of this include the Family Life Education and Counseling Services (FLECS) and the Patrician Society of Central Norristown.

However, we still want to participate in the area of schoarship.  With that, we are announcing an annual $2,000 program with Our Lady of Victory school in Norristown.   For the most part, the funding will be able to be spent on supplies, activities, and tuition based upon the school's principal, Angela Ciccanti.

If you have any questions on this update, please send an email to info@MPFoundation.org.
